CJP takes suo-moto notice over burning of Ghotki women

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk on Wednesday took suo-moto notice over burning of mother, daughter after gang rape at Ghotki.

The court also issued notice to Inspector General of Police Sindh, Advocate General Sindh and Chairperson National Commission on the status of Women in Human Rights case and fixed the case for 2nd week of May 2015.

The Chief Justice took notice on press clipping of daily Jang dated April 09 containing the column (“SINDH KI KHAWATEEN SY INSAAF – QOOMI TARJEH NAHI”) wherein it was stated that few weeks ago a lady Allah Wadhaye and her 12 years old daughter Sheema Solangi were gang raped and later they both were set on fire at Ghotki. Sheema Solangi died, whereas Allah Wadhaye received serious burn injuries.

The accused are still at large.

In the Column another incident was also mentioned wherein a newly married woman namely Tahira Khoso was murdered in District Jacobabad by her husband by so called honour killing.

Accused husband of deceased Tahira Khoso has allegedly been provided shelter by political Leader in Balochistan.

Taking the cognizance of the issue, the Chief Justice of Pakistan directed that the SSPs concerned through IGP Sindh to submit report within three days.

The court also called report from Chairperson National Commission on the status of women regarding status of women and the specific incidents highlighted in the news clipping as well as to provide statistical data of such like cases in Pakistan and measures taken so far in this regard within 3 days.
